One great week in Northern, NY

My friend, Ryan Dorsey, flew in from Colorado to visit me for a week. He couldn't have picked a better week as we had warm weather and clear skies. We had a jam packed schedule with lots of cycling and showing him around the area. We cycled 2-3 hours each day. One day next to the St. Lawrence River, a few days around the amish country up here, one day in Canton, one big group ride up in Ottawa in Canada, and one loop of the Ironman Lake Placid bike course in the Adriondacks.

After the group ride in Canada, Dean, Ryan and myself went to the Tulip Festival and had some great food from South Africa. Besides cycling Ryan and I made and ate lots of homemade bread on local honey, made venison jerky, dried fruit, threw some wood around for my dad, took a few boat rides on the St. Lawrence River, did a little finish as we caught up on old times.

While in the Adirondacks, Ryan and I did a backpacking trip. We hiked 8.5 miles into the mountains. We pasted John's Brook Lodge and ended up pitching the tent at Slant Rock. The next morning we had an epic 9 hour plus hike. We hiked Basin, Saddleback, Gothics, Armstrong and Upperwolf Jaw Mountain. I'm not sure how many miles but there was certainly a lot of elevation gain with great views on top of each peak.

View of Gothics from Saddleback Mountain. The route we hiked up.
